<p>PURPOSE: Speaker front volume usage is provided to control the low frequency sound quality of a speaker driver in an extended back volume area. CONSTITUTION: An enclosure (104) includes a top wall (106), a bottom wall (108), a side wall (110) connecting the top wall and the bottom wall, an acoustic output opening (124), and a back volume. A speaker driver is arranged in the enclosure and includes a sound radiating surface (114) having a top face and a bottom face for emitting sound waves. A frame member is attached to the speaker driver and forms a front volume chamber (128) acoustically connecting the top face of the sound radiating surface to the acoustic output opening and a back volume chamber (130) acoustically connecting the bottom face of the sound radiating surface to the back volume. The part of the back volume chamber overlaps one side of the speaker driver facing the acoustic output opening so that a volume of the back volume chamber is greater than a volume of the front volume chamber.
