PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotating energy degrader that attenuates energy of a charged particle beam take out of a particle accelerator.SOLUTION: The energy degrader, which attenuates energy of a charged particle beam, includes a first energy attenuation member 10, a second energy attenuation member 20, and first and second spiral surfaces 12 and 21 opposed to each other. The first energy attenuation member 10 has an annular first beam-entering surface and a continuous spiral beam-exiting surface, the second energy attenuation member 20 has a continuous spiral beam-entering surface and an annular beam-exiting surface. The energy degrader further includes a driving device 60 rotating the first and second energy attenuation members 10 and 20 around a first axis line A1 and a second axis line A2, respectively. Since the moment of inertia is small, the beam energy is changed more precisely and more rapidly.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
