[Class 83 (iii).] A cylinder-boring machine has a housing for a boring-bar adapted to be secured in position for operation on a cylinder and suction means for conveying cuttings away from the cylinder through the upper end thereof. The boring- spindle 7 is carried in a bearing in the housing 5 and is driven by belt means 15 from a counter. shaft 14 which is connected through the gear box 13 to an electric motor 12. A fan 22 secured to the upper end of the motor spindle, draws the cuttings as they are produced, from the tools 11 along the passage 20 in the housing, to an outlet 23, or they may be driven through the outlet 24 by a separate suction device. A cover 18 is fitted around the opening between the machine housing and the work prior to the cutting operation.</p> |
