The invention relates to a liquid-crystal spatial light modulator, including a matrix of liquid crystal pixels (CL) defined, in a so-called vertical direction (z), by first (D1) and second (D2) transparent slabs which are parallel to one another and spaced apart in said vertical direction, each of said pixels including a first electrode (Ep), referred to as pixel electrode, and a second electrode (CE), referred to as counter-electrode, and containing a liquid crystal (CL) in which the molecules have a natural inoperative orientation which is not parallel to the slabs, characterised in that the pixel electrode and the counter-electrode of each pixel are arranged facing one another at opposite ends of the pixel, spaced apart from both the first and the second slab in said vertical direction. The electrodes are preferably supported by side walls (P1, P2) extending over at least one portion of the space between the first and the second slab and laterally defining the pixels. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing such a spatial light modulator. |
