A filling body has vertically arranged channels (2) with open ends (3) through which flow liquid and gas mixtures. The intermediate (central) portion (4) of the channels (2) has a constant or substantially constant cross-section. Portions (5, 6; 6, 7) having a variable cross-section are linked at the top and bottom of the intermediate portions (4).
