Divided on 407,723, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 6, 1932. [Class 53.] One or more of the conductors leading from the plates of a cell employing lead electrodes is covered with insulating material and is arranged to pass between adjacent plates to act as a spacing member or separator. Figs. 2 and 3 show a cell in plan and side views in which the plates 12, 13 are inverted, the lugs 14, 15 being connected to conductors 9, 8 which are provided with celluloid coverings 10 and which pass through the cell between the plates. The plate lugs pass through a false bottom 16 cemented to the walls of the cell near its lower end and the coverings 10 are cemented to the bottom 16 and cover 6. The cover 6 and bottom 7 are cemented in position to make the cell gas-tight. The plates of the cell may be constructed as described in Specification 407,723. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the covered conductors need not be arranged as separators between the electrodes and that portions of the conductors may be formed as helices to increase the length and diminish creeping of the electrolyte between the conductors and their coverings. The conductors may be protected from the electrolyte by being embedded in the wall of the cell as shown in Fig. 4 (Cancelled). This may be done by passing the conductors through holes blown in the cell walls or by moulding the cell round the conductors. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
