PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air separator capable of improving a unit requirement of electric power consumption, by precisely reducing electric power consumption of a raw material air compressor for compressing raw material air, as a low temperature separation type air separator for rectifying and separating oxygen and nitrogen or also argon in the raw material air by using a boiling point difference. SOLUTION: This air separator has a metallic plate type sensible heat exchanger 20 for exchanging heat between the raw material air and unused exhaust gas (waste nitrogen) on the primary side of the raw material air compressor 12 compressing the raw material air.
