PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift by wire type automatic transmission preventing an unnecessary load from acting on a SBW (Shift By Wire) actuator by absorbing deformation of a control shaft. SOLUTION: The shift by wire type automatic transmission operating a manual valve of an automatic transmission by an electric means to change over a shift range is provided with a position sensor attached on one end part of the control shaft and detecting position of the automatic transmission, an actuator driving and rotating the control shaft according to input signal, and a connecting means connecting an output shaft of the actuator to the control shaft with avoiding interference with the position sensor. The connecting means includes a shaft spline-fitted with the output shaft of the actuator by first splines, and a U-shaped member fixed on the shaft at one end thereof and fitted on the control shaft by second splines.
