PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for encoding/decoding an image, capable of reducing a size of a memory space required for storing a motion vector.SOLUTION: A motion predictor 111 of a video encoding device 100 searches a reference block optimally matched with an input block in a reference picture stored in a reference buffer 190 during a motion prediction process to obtain a motion vector. By limiting a dynamic range of a motion vector during a motion vector generation process, the size of a memory space required to store the motion vector and a memory access bandwidth required for fetching data from a memory may be reduced.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
