A turbine power generation system with enhanced stabilization of refractory carbides provided by hydrocarbon from high carbon activity gases is disclosed. The disclosure also includes a method of using high carbon activity gases to stabilize hot gas path components.

1. A turbine power generation system, comprising:
a plurality of hot gas path components comprising a combustor and a turbine, said combustor configured to combust a mixture of air with a fuel to produce an exhaust gas stream, and said turbine configured to convert energy of said exhaust stream into useful mechanical energy; and wherein said plurality of hot gas path components is thermally coupled to a hot gas path; and a first conduit configured to deliver a high carbon activity gas to at least one hot gas path component of said plurality of hot gas path components; wherein a refractory carbide comprises at least a portion of said plurality of hot gas path components.
