PURPOSE: A composition containing Hedyotis diffusa extract is provided to reduce ATL activation in serum and to prevent and treat nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases contains 0.1-10 wt% of Hedyotis diffusa extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using water or organic solvent. The nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is nonalcoholic simple steatosis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, or nonalcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. A health food for improving liver function contains the extract as an active ingredient. The health food includes beverages, chocolate, food, snack pizza, ramen, noodles, gum, candy, ice cream, alcoholic drinks, vitamin complexes, or health food supplements.
