PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to improve detergency and to improve the finish after washing of tableware and to decrease the amount of the detergent to be used by adopting active water as the washing water to be used for an automatic tableware washing machine. SOLUTION: When, for example, a ceramic flow electrolysis type water activator is used, the particulate sintered compacts of ceramics mainly composed of aluminosilicate, etc., are fluidized and mixed in treating water and the particles are brought into collision and friction against each other, by which local charges are generated on their surfaces and the electrolysis of the water is effected to activate the water. Such water activator is mounted into a water pipe to supply the washing water and the city water to be used is passed in such water activator, by which the properties of the water are changed and activated. The activated water is supplied to the automatic tableware washing machine to wash the tableware with this water as the washing water. The washing performance is then improved and the scale adhesion by hard water component is prevented by the diminishing of the associated bodies of the water molecules bonded by ordinary hydrogen bond, the degradation in surface tension, etc.
