PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a warming up process for hot-melting a paste housed in a paste tank from its solidified state in a bookbinding device, in which bookbinding is performed by pasting a cover to the back of a bookproper. SOLUTION: In this bookbinding device, a first starching drum 316 is driven under immersion in the paste housed in the paste tank 312. In the warming up process, during which the paste housed in the paste tank 312 is heated from its solidified state up to be melted so as to be able to coat the back of the bookproper 12, an electronic controlling part repeatingly performs an actuator operation controlling, which consists of the actuation of a first motor 336 so as to give driving force to the first starching drum 316 and the stopping of the actuation of the first motor 336 under no detection of the rotation of the first starching drum 316, every predetermined period of time until the rotation of the first starching drum 316 and then uninterruptedly drives the first starching drum 316 when the rotation of the first starching drum 316 is detected.
