PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for controlling amplification of a signal in order to decrease dynamic range. SOLUTION: The method for amplifying an input signal by using controlled gain includes: a step of offering an output signal showing an input signal, which is amplified by initial gain; a step of determining signal level of the input signal or the signal level of the output signal; a step of comparing the signal level with a threshold level; a step of updating the initial gain value by using an adaptive control characteristic when the signal level is less than the threshold level; and a step of updating the initial gain value by using a stationary control characteristic or each adaptive control characteristic based on the signal level if it exceeds the threshold level. The adaptive control characteristics depend on the signal level and the stationary control characteristics are not related with the signal level in this method. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
