PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a turbo compound engine comprising a supercharger and a recovery turbine with improved fuel economy at low load.SOLUTION: A turbo compound engine comprises: a supercharger 2; a recovery turbine 4; a motor generator 5 connected to the recovery turbine 4 through an input-side clutch 10a; an electric power storage device 6; a power transmission mechanism 8 connected to the motor generator 5 through an output-side clutch 10b and coupled to a crank shaft 7; and control means of storing exhaust energy of the recovery turbine 4 as electric power in the electric power storage device 6 with the input-side clutch 10a connected and the output-side clutch 10b disconnected in a high-load operation state, and driving the motor generator 5 with the stored electric power and returning the power to the side of an engine E with the input-side clutch 10a disconnected and the output-side clutch 10b connected in a low-load operation state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
