PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wearable electronic device and gesture detection method that can reduce faulty detection of gestures due to motion of objects, not pointers with power consumption reduced.SOLUTION: An HMD 100, which is one example of a wearable electronic device according to the present invention, comprises: a proximity sensor 105A detecting gestures in a detection area, and a gesture processing unit 1212; the proximity sensor 105A that outputs a signal in accordance with presence or absence of objects in the detection area; a camera 106A that generates an image with an area containing the detection area as an imaging area; and a control unit 1211 that, when detecting existence or non-existence of objects on the basis of the output of the proximity sensor 105A, and detecting the existence of the object, boots the camera 106A in a non-operative state to cause an image to be generated, and when detecting existence or non-existence of pointers on the basis of the image photographed by camera 106A, and detecting the existence of the pointer, causes the gesture processing unit 1212 to detect a gesture due to the pointer.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5 |
