PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent room temperature from lowering at the time of defrosting operation of an outdoor unit. SOLUTION: In the air conditioner, a plurality of indoor units 5 are divided into a plurality of groups I, II and provided in a room 1 and an outdoor unit 3 is provided for each group. When detecting frosting of the outdoor unit 3 and executing defrosting operation, as the defrosting operation of each indoor unit 3 is performed with time interval to the next one, heating operation of indoor units of a group, for example, indoor units 5 of the group I only, of the indoor units 5 of the plurality of groups, is suspended, heating operation can be executed by using rest of the indoor units 5 of group II and the temperature in the room 1 can be prevented from lowering.
