PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To create a profile where nonlinear characteristics existing in an entire correspondence region are reproduced appropriately by outputting a color chart in which a small number of patches are laid out successively when creating the profile, determining the number of patches to be measured while evaluating the precision of a designated color value, ensuring precision in the estimated color value with less measurement action, and correcting the entire corresponding region of color designation and a color value. SOLUTION: In multiple-color calibration, a patch having different speed and precision is selected automatically. A color chart is hierarchically composed of 16 points→81 points→933 points, colorimetry is performed only to 16 points to estimate one portion on space, and then estimation precision is obtained by a color difference to actual measurement. When precision is poor, the precision is obtained as well at 81 points. When the obtained precision is still poor, the profile is prepared at 933 points. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
