PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader in which an optical unit is supported so as to hardly shake when moving in a sub-scanning direction. SOLUTION: In the image reader, the optical unit has a flange projecting sideward, a first support piece, and a second support piece disposed inside and away from the first support piece in a main scanning direction, and a support member has a travel surface receiving the flange from below and a fist guide surface supporting the first support piece from inside. Further, a guide member having a second guide surface supporting the second support piece from inside is fitted to the support member, so that the flange is supported and the first and second support pieces are clamped to be supported from both side by the support member and guide member, thereby preventing the optical unit from shaking in the main scanning direction as much as possible even when driven in the sub-scanning direction.
