Transparent display and illumination device

A transparent emissive device is provided. The device may include one or more OLEDs having an anode, a cathode, and an organic emissive layer disposed between the anode and the cathode. In some configurations, the OLEDs may be non-transparent. The device may also include one or more locally transparent regions, which, in combination with the non-transparent OLEDs, provides an overall device transparency of 5% or more.

a light emitting first device comprising a first region and a second region; wherein the first device transmits light through the first region and a first surface of the first device emits light from the second region, wherein the first region is transparent and the second region is substantially non-transparent, regardless of power being applied to the device; and wherein the device has an overall transparency of at least 5%.
