PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of an electrophoretic display device for reducing an afterimage and suppressing reduction in a contrast ratio of a rewriting target portion without changing the whole screen into monochromatic such as black or white.SOLUTION: A partial driving method is employed, in which a display part 4 is divided into a plurality of sub-regions; a predetermined voltage is applied to a common electrode in the sub-regions; a voltage higher or lower than at least the predetermined voltage is applied to each pixel electrode; an electric field is generated between the pixel electrode and the common electrode to move electrophoretic particles so as to rewrite an image to be displayed in the sub-region. The method includes: an image erasure step (S2) where the background of a first image displayed in a first color in a first sub-region is displayed in the first color; a display initialization step (S3) where, after the image erasure step, the whole pixels in the first sub-region are displayed in a second color; and an image display step (S4) where, after the display initialization step, a second image is displayed in the first color in the first sub-region. After the image erasure step or after the display initialization step, the next image erasure step (S2) is carried out in a second sub-region.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9 |
