SWITCHABLE ATTENUATION DEVICE

A description is given of a switchable attenuation device (ES1, ES2) for optionally attenuating digital signals, having a control means (MULT) for evaluating the signal values by means of an attenuation factor (At) determining the instantaneous attenuation value, and having a control means (CM) for step-by-step control of the change in attenuation value within a prescribed turn-on or turn-off time. According to the invention, the control means (CM) contains at least one digital filter (DF) which controls the changes (Al') in the attenuation value by filtering a turn-on or turn-off pulse (X). In addition, the use of such attenuation devices as an echo attenuation device in cordless telephones and telephones with the hands-free set is described.
