<p>Described are preferred processes for preparing substituted pyridines by the reaction of a pyridine with nitric acid, an anhydride and optionally a nucleophile. Preferred processes yield cyanopyridines, pyridyl ketones, substituted nitroalky pyridines, and nitropyridines depending on the starting material chosen, whether a nucleophile is utilized and whether the nucleophile is a source of cyanide ion.</p> |
