PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of performing printing control regardless of the width of a label, in a label sheet in which a number of labels are adhered to a mount board. SOLUTION: A thermal head 19 is installed in the width direction of the label sheet 71 facing its printing surface, and a label peeling mechanism 45 for changing the carrying direction of the label sheet 71 to peel the label 712 from the mounting board 711 is provided on the rear surface side of the label sheet 71, on a discharge port 13 side farther than a printing position. An image sensor head 27 and a reflecting member 271 are provided in the width direction of the label 712 so as to hold the peeled label 712 in between, to determine whether light is reflected on the reflecting member 271 or on the label 712, namely whether the label 712 exists or not based on the detected value by the image sensor head 27. When a user removes all the labels 712 and determines that no label 712 exists based on the detected value by the image sensor head 27, then the next processing is started.
