A version control apparatus is provided to improve the system efficiency of a digital TV receiver by controlling and managing versions of a DCCT(Directed Channel Change Table) and a DCCSCT(Directed Channel Change Selection Code Table) through an MGT(Master Guide Table). An MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) unit(10) encodes data including video, audio, and version information of a DCCSCT(Directed Channel Change Selection Code Table) to form the data in a basic stream type. A packet compression unit(20) compresses the data received from the MPEG unit into a packet basic stream so as to manage the data by the units. A multiplexer(30) multiplexes the audio, the video, and the data received from the packet compression unit(20) so as to improve the transmission efficiency. A modulation unit(40) modulates and transmits the transmission packet received from the multiplexer(30). A transmission unit(60) transmits signals received from the modulation unit(40). A version change of the DCCSCT is determined by version information of the DCCSCT within an MGT(Master Guide Table).
