PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric sensor achieving stable detection for a long term. SOLUTION: The photoelectric sensor is constituted so that a light-projection current I, an amplification factor G and a light-receiving quantity threshold value TH can be changed. A CPU increases the amplification factor G of a light-receiving signal amplifier so that the moving mean value of a detecting light-receiving quantity Q in a non-detection state reaches a fixed value when the light-projection current I reaches a maximum value IM2. The CPU lowers the light-receiving quantity threshold value TH so as to have a specified relative relationship with the moving mean value of the detecting light-receiving quantity Q in the non-detection state when the amplification factor G of the light-receiving signal amplifier reaches the maximum value GM2.
