PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop a reading part at a position at which an adverse effect is not exerted on the next operation even when the error of stop accuracy occurs. SOLUTION: The image input device is provided with: a reading part that is made to move in a predetermined direction to read an image; a memory for storing the maximum braking distance from the deceleration start of the reading part; and a controller for setting the stop target position of the reading part at a reading start position and starting deceleration of the reading part from a position that is separated from the stop target position by the maximum braking distance or more when making the reading part move in the predetermined direction and also move to the reading start position of the image.
