The device (10) is designed as a base (12) of a slightly asymmetrical shape with a recess (22) for the thumb located at one end and a container part (16) at the opposite end. The container (16) comprises two compartments (24, 26): a first compartment (24) for the substance to be applied, sealed with a foil (32) before use, and a second compartment (26) accommodating a suitable applicator (44). A groove (20) surrounding the container (16), serves as a receptacle for spilled contents.
