A fire-retardant method of a fixing device in an image forming device is provided to minimize damage of an image forming device and possible damage of properties and casualties by preventing a fixing unit from being fired. A signal generating unit(100) generates a signal to determine whether or not a micro-controller(40) operates normally. A micro-controller state discriminating unit(200) receives the signal provided from the signal generating unit(100) and determines a state of the micro-controller(40). A fixing unit heat source driving unit(50) finally determines whether to turn on or off a fixing unit heat source(10) after considering signals from a fixing temperature controller(42), a thermister open and overheat sensing unit(60) and the micro-controller state discriminating unit(200). The signal generating unit(100) transmits two opposite signals. If two signals received from the micro-controller(40) have the same value, the micro-controller state discriminating unit(200) includes an XOR gate that transmits an abnormal signal.
