PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve adjustment of good timing and appropriate floating quantity using a controller for a magnetic recording and reproducing device provided with no heating means for adjusting floating quantity. SOLUTION: The head amplifier is provided with a write amplifying means for applying a write current to a write head element, a read-out amplifying means for amplifying read voltage output from a read head element and outputting a read output signal, a heating part drive means for applying a current for heating to at least one heating part for adjusting floating quantity during write and/or read, and a heating control means for controlling this heating part drive means.
