PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can maintain appropriate lubricant coated state on the surface of a photoreceptor, or the like, immediately after and whenever exchanging a lubricant or after a long-term use and can maintain a stable image forming state, while preventing buckling of a blade or generation of filming. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 is equipped with an image carrier 20, a developing means 61, a cleaning blade 631 that contacts the image carrier 20 in the counter direction, with respect to the rotation direction, and a friction reducing means that reduces the frictional coefficient on the surface of the image carrier 20. The friction reducing means comprises a coating device 64 having a solid lubricant 642, a coating brush roller 641 and a pressurizing means 644; and a pressurizing force control means 66 that controls the pressurizing force with respect to the solid lubricant 642 after an initial stage is passed, to be lower than the pressurizing force on the solid lubricant 642 in the initial stage.
