1. A method for monitoring enzyme activity in a subject, the method comprising administering a dichromic compound to the subject and detecting whether the structural symmetry of the compound changes, thereby indicating enzymatic activity; the dichromic compound comprising Formula (Ic):wherein:
R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, amide, amino, carboxyl, halogen, hydroxyl, phosphate, sulfonate, thiol, azido, alkyne, amino acid, amino acid sequence, nucleic acid sequence, monosaccharide, oligosaccharide, lipid, small molecule enzyme inhibitor, receptor inhibitor, metal, and chelator; R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9, R10, R11, R12, R13, R14, R15, R16, R17, and R18 are ea1ch independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, hydrocarbyl and substituted hydrocarbyl; m is an integer from 1 to 10; and n is an integer from 1 to 10. |
