The present invention provides an apparatus and a method for handling an emergency situation of a passenger of a wheel chair. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the apparatus for handling an emergency situation is allowed to be carried by a passenger boarding a wheel chair or is able to be mounted on the wheel chair. The apparatus for handling an emergency situation comprises a data obtaining module, a data processing module, an emergency situation recognition module and an emergency situation responding module. The data obtaining module obtains a data packet from a wheel chair apparatus including a wheel chair. The data processing module classifies the data packet into a bio signal measurement packet, a situation measurement packet and a bio signal analysis packet, corrects data values of the bio signal measurement packet and the situation measurement packet to generate a bio signal measurement valid packet and a situation measurement valid packet. The emergency situation recognition module receives the bio signal measurement valid packet, the situation measurement valid packet and the bio signal analysis packet from the data processing module and determines whether the passenger boarding the wheel chair is in an emergency situation based on the bio signal measurement valid packet, the situation measurement valid packet and the bio signal analysis packet to generate emergency situation determination information. The emergency situation responding module performs an alarm process in accordance with a degree of an emergency situation depending on the emergency situation determination information.
