PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine combustion state determination method and an internal combustion engine combustion state determination device capable of making a size of the determination device into compact one and reducing its cost in which complex calculation processing using a high-speed CPU or a memory is not required for determining whether or not irregular combustion occurs at the time of combustion of the internal combustion engine and a time duration for the determination is short.SOLUTION: In this invention, a normal combustion state light emission intensity EIn(α) and a determination combustion state light emission intensity EId(β) of substance having spectrum of flame selected are measured under a normal combustion state and a determination combustion state of an internal combustion engine E, a normal combustion state crank rotation angle width Dn and a determination combustion state crank rotation angle width Dd are calculated in reference to these measured values and compared with each other, thereby it is determined whether or not the combustion state of the internal combustion engine E under the determination combustion state is an irregular combustion state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
