PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light deflecting liquid crystal element capable of uniformly bending light in two directions.SOLUTION: The light deflecting liquid crystal element comprises: a first transparent substrate; a second transparent substrate; a prism layer formed on the second transparent substrate and having a first refractive index; a liquid crystal layer inserted between the first and the second transparent substrates and having a liquid crystal molecule in which an average value of an average value ((ne+2no)/3) of an extraordinary light refractive index (ne) and an ordinary light refractive index (no), and the ordinary light refractive index (no) is equal to the first refractive index; and a pair of transparent electrodes for applying voltage to the liquid crystal layer. |
