PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an area information provision method achieving high-speed response by taking advantage of both mesh system and polygon system. SOLUTION: The area information provision method includes: a receiving step to receive designation of coordinate information specifying a point on a map; a mesh retrieval step to try to obtain, in accordance with the designated coordinate information, area information under the mesh system and to judge whether or not the relevant mesh corresponds to a plurality of polygons; a mesh output step to output, when the result of judgement reveals that the relevant mesh corresponds to one polygon, the area information made to correspond to the relevant mesh; and a polygon retrieval step to obtain and output, when the result of judgement reveals that the relevant mesh corresponds to a plurality of polygons, the area information under the polygon system.
