PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel method for efficiently producing a 1,3,4-trimethylpyrazole-5-carboxylate in a short process without forming a toxic substance, and an intermediate for producing the same. SOLUTION: A method for producing a 1,3,4-trimethylpyrazole-5-carboxylate represented by formula (3) which is characterized by subjecting a hydrazinoacetic acid ester derivative represented by formula (2) to a reaction in the presence of a base, which hydrazinoacetic acid ester derivative is produced by causing a methylhydrazinoacetic acid compound represented by formula (1) (wherein R represents a 1-4C alkyl group) to react with a diacetyl, is disclosed.
