Non-spot light source arrangement for e.g. illuminated traffic sign

The arrangement includes a structure in the form of a hollow sphere (1) of insulating material which has a number of e.g. light emitting diodes set around the surface. The diodes are set with orientations (2) that intersect the centre of the sphere. Electrical contacts and interconnections of the diodes lie within the sphere. The lighting effect is similar to that achieved using a gas discharge bulb or gas lighting within a sphere shape. The light transmission takes place only over an angle or a fraction of the sphere.
