The cylinder (1) is formed by a pot-shaped casing with a substantially cylindrical receiving bore (2) in which a pot-shaped piston (4) is slidably mounted. The roller bodies (5) in the clamping bolt locking mechanism are retainerless and supported by the piston cover (43). A piston can be moved by a pressurised medium in one direction to cooperate with the cylinder, and can be moved by an energy accumulator (35, 36) in the other direction. The piston cooperates with a locking mechanism comprising roller bodies which engage with a path in the outer periphery of the clamping bolt (3) in the locking position. Independent claims are also included for (a) a quick-clamping device with a piston containing a first energy accumulator (35), on top of which is a further energy accumulator (36) or spacer disc (37) with an increased diameter contacting the bottom side (29) of the cylinder cover (28), and (b) a quick-clamping device with a lifting piston slidably mounted inside the central bore coaxial to the main piston, the lifting piston being used to move the clamping bolt in the axial direction.
