PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 2-cyclopentyl cyclopentanone compound which is useful as a perfume raw material or the like. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 2-cyclopentyl cyclopentanone compound represented by formula (1) is characterized by subjecting a cyclopentanone compound of formula (2) to an aldol condensation to obtain a reaction mixture containing a compound represented by formula (3), contacting the reaction mixture with carbon dioxide to neutralize the reaction mixture, and then hydrogenating the product.
