PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve sure fine adjustment in a method of controlling the position of a rest bar on which a guide device for guiding a rolled stock is placed. SOLUTION: When moving the moving body part 3 of the rest bar 1 from the position of the present condition to a designated position in the positive direction, the number of rotations of a motor 9 is calculated from the amount of travel and, when the calculation result is the number M (M is a positive number), the motor 9 is forward rotated by the number M of rotations. When moving the moving body part from the position of the present condition to the designated position in the negative direction, the number of rotations of the motor 9 is calculated from the amount of travel and, when the calculation result is the number N (N is a positive number), the forward rotation is performed by the numberαof rotations after inversely rotating the motor by (N+α) (αis a positive number of one or more) of the number of rotations.
