The invention relates to a gas mixture which serves for ensuring the breathing of persons in aircraft in case of need. Depending upon the density altitude the gas mixtures is composed of 7±5% CO2 at a flying altitude of 15,000ft, increasing to 17±5% CO2 at a flying altitude of 30,000ft in order to improve the bioavailability of oxygen in the body. Either the mixture is produced by addition to pure O2 or by addition to a gas mixture composed of a proportion of N2 and a proportion of O2. The invention further relates to a method for ensuring the breathing of persons in the event of a pressure drop or generally in the event of hyperventilation, which method is characterised in that a continuous supply of the gas mixture is made available to such persons as described above by means of masks placed over the nose and mouth. Finally, the invention relates to the use of such a gas mixture for ensuring the breathing of persons having restricted freedom of movement in case of need. As a result, the quantity of oxygen which regulations require aircraft to carry can be reduced and flight paths can be planned directly over high terrain. |
