PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine an erroneous detection of a tooth missing part by a crank angle detection device which is employed in an internal combustion engine which can change the rotation phase of a camshaft with respect to a crank shaft.SOLUTION: A crank angle detection device prestores for each VCT phase a normal value of a difference (angle difference d) between a crank angle at timing at which a specified tooth 14a of a cam pulser 14 is detected, and a crank angle corresponding to a timing at which a tooth missing part 10b of a crank pulser 10 is detected. Then, erroneous detection means 21 determines the VCT phase upon detecting the tooth missing part 10b, and calculates the angle difference d at that time, and when the angle difference d does not coincide with the normal value corresponding to the VCT phase, determines an erroneous detection. By this constitution, an erroneous detection of the tooth-missing part 10b can be determined even in a crank angle detection device 1 which is applied to an internal combustion engine 2 which can change the VCT phase.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
