This paper sheet feeder (4) is provided with: a mount plate (34) on which paper sheets are mounted; a pickup roller (71) for sending out the paper sheets to a conveying path (25); a lift member (36) for raising the mount plate (34) when being rotated about a rotational shaft (46) center, and abutting the end, facing downstream in the conveying direction, of a paper sheet at the uppermost position against the pickup roller (71); a driving unit (37) for rotating the rotational shaft (46); a rotation type variable resistor (54) of which the electrical resistance value changes depending on the rotation angle of the rotational shaft (46); and a control unit (77) for calculating the rotation angle of the rotational shaft (46) from the electrical resistance value measured by the rotation type variable resistor (54), and sensing the amount of paper sheets on the basis of the calculated rotation angle. |
