Provided is a liquid crystal display device having good light transmittance and good image quality, and in which the area of dark lines occurring when light passes through a pixel region is small. The liquid crystal display device of the present invention has: two substrates, on one side of each of which an electrode and an optical alignment film are formed sequence, the one surfaces facing each other; a liquid crystal layer interposed between the optical alignment films and including a vertical-alignment-type liquid crystal material; a plurality of pixel regions formed on the substrates in a matrix in the surface direction of the substrates; at least two liquid crystal domains included in the pixel regions and differing as to standard alignment directions defined by the optical alignment films; main slits 21 formed in regions corresponding to the liquid crystal domains of one electrode and extending parallel to the standard alignment directions; and sub-slits 22 extending between two liquid crystal domains arranged in one direction, the sub-slits 22 extending in another direction orthogonal to the one direction. The width of the sub-slits 22 is equal to or greater than the width of the main slits 21. |
