<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data coding apparatus or the like capable of exerting a high compression performance in a short processing time with a small required memory capacity. <P>SOLUTION: The data coding apparatus 1 includes: a prediction section 12 and a subtractor 13 for adaptively predicting data in a block unit and calculating prediction error data; an absolute value processing section 14 for applying absolute value processing to the prediction error data; a flatness detection section 15 that detects a number whereat the prediction error data subjected to the absolute value processing consecutively reach a prescribed threshold value or below and detects the number of run sets wherein the detected number reaches a prescribed number; a category section 16 for determining a category code with a minimum code length in response to the detected number of run sets; a Huffman table selection section 17 that generates a coding table so as to assign a category code with a shorter code length to a category close to the determined minimum code length category; and a Huffman coding section 18 that codes the prediction error data on the basis of the coding table. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
