PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a DNA modification enzyme, a gene encoding the enzyme protein and a method for producing the DNA modification enzyme.SOLUTION: There are provided a DNA modification enzyme obtained from bacteria belonging to the genus Rhodococcus, a specific amino acid sequence or a protein containing the specific amino acid sequence, and a gene containing a specific base sequence or a DNA consisting of the specific base sequence. There is also provided a method for producing the DNA modification enzyme with a transformant containing a gene recombinant vector. For example, when a DNA modified with the DNA modification enzyme (M. RrhJ1II modification enzyme) is a double stranded DNA, a specific base of both the strands is modified. Specific positions in the specific bases modified with the DNA modification enzyme (M.RrhJ1II modification enzyme) include the N6 position of adenine, the N4 position of cytosine or the C5 position of cytosine, and preferably include the C5 position of cytosine. |
