PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device, a discharge lamp lighting method and a projector apparatus that light a discharge lamp while suppressing power consumption.SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device includes: a resonance circuit section (73) connected to the discharge lamp (10); a power conversion section (72) for converting DC power to AC power and supplying the AC power to the discharge lamp via the resonance circuit section; and a control section (76) for changing the frequency of the AC power stepwise with a frequency different from a frequency causing resonance of the resonance circuit section in between in a lighting start period in which the discharge lamp reaches a steady lighting state.
