PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state imaging element which allows both wide dynamic range and high picture quality. SOLUTION: The solid state imaging element comprises many pixels 100 arrayed on the same plane. The pixel 100 comprises an on-board photoelectric conversion element 200a, an in-board photoelectric conversion element 200b, and a signal reading circuit 100b for reading the signals corresponding to the charges generated at the photoelectric conversion element 200a and 200b. The signal reading circuit 100b comprises a charge detecting cell 212a corresponding to the photoelectric conversion element 200a, and a charge detecting cell 212b corresponding to the photoelectric conversion element 200b. A first capacitance when observing the on-board photoelectric conversion element 200a from the charge detecting cell 212a is 1.2 times or higher of the second capacitance when observing the in-board photoelectric conversion element 200b from the charge detecting cell 212b.
