PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic memory device in which regions for regulating movement of a magnetic domain wall can be formed surely at predetermined intervals even when the width of a recording layer is narrowed, and to provide its fabrication process. SOLUTION: The magnetic memory device has a linear recording layer 22 in which level differences 15' are formed at predetermined intervals wherein the region having the level difference becomes a region 32 for regulating movement of a magnetic domain wall 30, and the region between the regulation regions becomes a recording bit 34. Since level differences are formed in the recording layer at predetermined intervals and the part having the level difference becomes a region for regulating movement of a magnetic domain wall, the regions for regulating movement of a magnetic domain wall can be formed surely at predetermined intervals even when the width of a recording layer is narrowed.
